The Rocky franchise returned to the box office in 2006 with the release of Rocky Balboa to continue the story many years later. Balboa struggles to deal with life after his wife passes away and he gives up boxing to focus on the later years of his life.

This film would see him attempt to return to the boxing at an older age for the big comeback. Fans of the franchise enjoyed it and the movie made $156 million. Rocky Balboa did not have the same level of success of the other Rocky franchise films, but it was better than Rocky V which inspired more movies with a twist.

6 Creed: $173 million

Fans of the Rocky franchise would find a new hero as they changed the course of the franchise. The Rocky Balboa character was too old to continue fighting which led to the introduction of Creed. Michael B. Jordan played Adonis Creed as the son of the dead Rocky fighter Apollo Creed.

Fans enjoyed Creed with good reviews and an impressive box office gross of $173 million. It proved that the Rocky franchise could continue with a new character leading the way. Sylvester Stallone returned to play Rocky as he helps the son of his former friend out in the early start to his boxing career.

5 Rocky II: $200 million

The rivalry between Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed in the boxing ring is the favorite part of the Rocky franchise to many fans. Rocky II gave us the dream match as the main story of the movie with Balboa looking to take down a fighter viewed as better than him.

The performance of Carl Weathers is especially brilliant in making this movie a great success. Rocky II was good enough to bring in a gross of $200 million as a huge accomplishment back in 1979. The movie is still considered a favorite by fans to watch the entire Rocky franchise.

4 Creed 2: $214 million

The first Creed movie did well enough for a sequel to hit the big screen. Michael B. Jordan, Sylvester Stallone and Tessa Thompson all returned as the three main stars of the new look franchise. This film is a bit more emotional with Creed becoming a father in addition to his journey as a boxer.

Creed 2 did extremely well at the box office with an impressive gross of $214 million. The Rocky franchise is expected to continue, but it is unknown if another Creed movie is in the works. Regardless, Creed 2 did well enough to end up in the top tier of Rocky films.

3 Rocky: $225 million

The first Rocky film set the stage for the entire franchise with an emotional movie looking at the character Rocky Balboa. Viewers fell in love with the character as the charm of Sylvester Stallone added to the presentation of the underdog fighter.

Rocky chased it all from the love of his life to boxing success to self-validation all in this introduction film. This movie grossed $225 million which was an outstanding number when released back in the year of 1976. If Rocky didn't do well, we would not have an entire franchise today.

2 Rocky III: $270 million

Rocky III gave us a third hit film for the franchise to show just how much the audience enjoyed these movies. This one focused on dealing with loss as he tries to continue moving forward with his career. Mr. T has a standout role as Clubber Lang opposing Balboa in Rocky III.

An outstanding $270 million was grossed by the film with fans loving the continuation of the story. Many diehard Rocky enthusiasts will name Rocky III as their favorites for all the fun involved. There is even a wrestling cameo by Hulk Hogan playing Thunderlips to oppose Balboa.

1 Rocky IV: $300 million

The most successful movie of the Rocky franchise would be Rocky IV. Ivan Drago is the lead villain boxer opposing Rocky as the standout Soviet fighter without much of a conscious. Balboa struggles with more personal loss as he tries to defeat an unbeatable fighter.

The movie had mixed reviews, but the box office success was obvious. Rocky IV made an incredible $300 million with fans enjoying the emotional story. This was the peak of the Rocky franchise at the box office as none of the past or present Rocky movies could pass it as the highest grossing film of them all.
